![]() The European Charter for Sustainable Tourism ( ECST) is a tool created, monitored and certified by the EUROPARC Federation and stands for a tourism that integrates environmental, cultural and social aspects together with the economic development in protected areas, promoting sustainable tourism for present generations without compromising future generation needs. Appliyng for the ECST implied using a participatory methodology that allows the coordenation of the territory by the different institutions and economic agents related to tourism and nature conservation, for the development of a common strategy of sustainable tourism. The Lands of Priolo with almost half of their territory integrated in the Natural Park of São Miguel, with the existence of Priolo, a unique bird, and the conservation actions developed during the LIFE projects coordenated by SPEA in Azores and the Development Plans of the Hydrographic Basin of Lagoa das Furnas are excelent candidates for the ECST. |
